MYA Activities
MYA exists for youth! Our programs, activities, and special events are planned with youth input. Many of our most successful events have come from youth suggestions!
Friday night meetings are a mix of open discussions and presentations, where a casual atmosphere allows for talking, playing games, discussion issues and lots of food and fun!
Some of the most popular events have been our winter holiday dances, Valentine’s dance, networking social events for area Gay and Straight Alliances in area high schools, our panel presentations and of course our annual MYA Prom!
Discussion topics have included current events, relationships, dating, homophobia and heterosexism, coming out issues, gender identity, school issues, harassment, media portrayal such as TV and movies, among many others.
MYA Members
MYA has grown tremendously in the last several years. In 2009, we welcomed more than 1600 youth, up from 200 in the year 2000!!
MYA draws youth from area public schools, private school, colleges and universities. Some of those are Radnor High School, Lower Merion and Harriton High Schools, Great Valley High School, Henderson High School, West Chester East High School, Owen J. Roberts High School, Haverford High School, Marple Newtown High School, Springfield High School, The Haverford School, The Shipley School, Baldwin School, Several of the Area “Prep Schools”, Agnes Irwin School, Upatina’s High School, Oxford Area High School, Methacton High School, Downingtown High School, North Penn High School, Conestoga High School, Villanova University, West Chester University, Kutztown University, Cabrini College, Eastern College, Philadelphia Univeristy, University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Arcadia University, and more…
